Let's not go anywhere or do anything without God's presence.
13 Now therefore, I pray, if I have found grace in Your sight, show me now Your way, that I may know You and that I may find grace in Your sight. And consider that this nation is Your people.” 14 And He said, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”
15 Then he said to Him, “If Your Presence does not go with us, do not bring us up from here. 16 For how then will it be known that Your people and I have found grace in Your sight, except You go with us? So we shall be separate, Your people and I, from all the people who are upon the face of the earth.” 17 So the LORD said to Moses, “I will also do this thing that you have spoken; for you have found grace in My sight, and I know you by name.” Exodus 33:13-17 NKJV
Recently my pastor mentioned this scripture with a practical application. Moses prayed and told God that he didn't not want to go where God was sending them if the recognizable presence of God was not with them. So my pastor challenged the students. He said what is you don't get out of the car at school until you pray for God's presence to go with you? And to the adults: What if you say at work, Lord I can't go in there if Your presence is not with me?
Let's start a prayer revolution. Before we walk into our usual day, let's pray that the presence of God will go with us. We know that God is with us always. But we're praying about the presence of God being with us in such a way that others will notice. Moses' prayer was that they would be separate from all other people – there would be a difference between people who know God and people who do not.
Moses asked the question:
How will anyone know that you are pleased with me and with your people unless you go with us? What else will distinguish me and your people from all the other people on the face of the earth?” Exodus 33:16 NIV
God had no problem with Moses' request. He answered, "I will do what you asked." That's the kind of God He is.
Pray with me:
Father, I bless You for this day. This is the day that You have made. I will rejoice and be glad in it! Father, I cannot go out today without You. I know that You are my life. So if Your presence does not go with me, I don't want to go. How will people know that I am Yours and You are mine if Your obvious, recognizable presence is not with me? Father, I will wait in Your presence and seek Your face. I want to find favor in Your sight. I need Your grace to cover me. Wash me Lord from my evil thoughts and all my sin. Grant that Your light would shine through me today. Grant that Your presence goes with me today so that there will be a recognizable difference between me and those who do not know You. I ask these requests in the precious name of Jesus. Amen.
